Romeo and Juliet
Act II, Scene 2: The Balcony Scene
Romeo’s monologue to Juliet in today’s language:
1. Sssh, what’s that light coming through the window?
2. Juliet’s like the sunlight.
3. Come out sun and kill the jealous moon,
4. Who is ill from being upset about how peng you are.
5. She’s so jealous, it’s making her look pasty.
6. Don’t be her maid. She’s so jealous,
7. Her innocent clothes are ugly and green
8. And only idiots would wear that stuff and be that innocent.
9. It’s my girl, my love!
10. If only she knew it.
11. She’s saying something without speaking, but what?
12. I can see in her eyes she’s saying something to me.
13. No, I was too confident, she wasn’t talking to me.
14. Two of the most beautiful stars in the sky
15. Asked Juliet’s eyes to do their job in their place
16. While they went off to do some work.
17. What if Juliet’s eyes were up there being stars in the sky and the stars were where her eyes should be?
18. Her cheeks would be bright enough to put the stars to shame
19. Her eyes shining in the sky would be as bright as daylight compared to a lamp.
20. The rays from her eyes would shine so bright
21. That birds would think it was daytime and start singing.
22. Look how she’s resting her cheek on her hand.
23. I wish I was a glove on her hand,
24. So I could touch her cheek.
React!
